All government and private schools in Telangana will resume classes on June 15, instead of the initially planned date of June 12, as announced by the School Education Department. Director of School Education E. Naveen Nicolas issued the directive following requests for reconsideration of the reopening date from various stakeholders.
The decision to delay the reopening was made due to June 13 and 14 falling on the weekend, with the second Saturday and Sunday respectively. To make up for the lost academic time and adhere to the academic calendar 2026-27, the schools will now open on June 15. Additionally, the second Saturday, July 11, will be considered a regular working day to compensate for the postponed reopening.
The director has instructed all relevant authorities, including heads of departments and district educational officers, to take necessary steps and inform all schools under their supervision accordingly. Intermediate colleges in Telangana had already reopened on June 1 after the summer break.
Parents and government junior lecturers had requested a delay in the college reopening by a week due to concerns over students’ well-being in the prevailing heatwave conditions. The first phase of admissions for Class 11 and 12 ended on May 30, with the admission process ongoing throughout June.
