Telangana Tourism Department Plans International Kite Festival in Hyderabad

The tourism department of Telangana is gearing up for Sankranti celebrations next month in Hyderabad with an international kite festival, hot air balloon, and drone festivals. The Kite festival is scheduled from January 13 to 15 at the Parade Grounds, featuring participation from both international and national kite flyers.
V. Kranti, the Managing Director of the Tourism Department, mentioned that various events are lined up for the Sankranti festival celebrations. Alongside the kite festival, there will be a hot air balloon festival on the city’s outskirts during the same period, offering a unique visual and experiential treat for visitors. Additionally, a drone festival is in the works, where drone pilots from all over the country will exhibit their skills, bringing a modern touch to the festivities.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao recently chaired a review meeting at the Secretariat to discuss the preparations for the kite festival. Stressing the significance of the event, he emphasized that the festival should be grand, reflecting Hyderabad’s vibrant culture and festive spirit during Sankranti. The Chief Secretary instructed departments to come up with a distinctive name, branding, and logo for the festival to give it a unique identity and broader visibility.
The Chief Minister suggested organizing the festival at lakes rejuvenated by HYDRA to showcase the successful restoration of these water bodies. He also directed GHMC, HMDA, and HYDRA to appoint dedicated officers to oversee and coordinate the festival arrangements at the designated locations. Ministers are set to visit these rejuvenated lakes from the first week of January to review the preparations.
During the meeting, HYDRA Chief A.V. Ranganath presented details on the tanks and lakes rejuvenated by HYDRA in the city, highlighting the restoration efforts aimed at enhancing water storage, environmental sustainability, and public utility. The Chief Secretary urged all departments to collaborate closely to ensure the smooth execution of the events and make the Sankranti celebrations a memorable experience for all citizens.
