The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) and Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on studies, technical contributions, and standardization activities in convergence and broadcasting technologies. This partnership aims to enhance India’s capabilities in setting standards and fostering innovation in these sectors, aligning with initiatives like Digital India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
TEC and BECIL will focus on developing India-specific standards, testing frameworks, and exploring emerging technologies in broadcasting and convergence. The agreement also includes joint efforts on Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) broadcasting, 5G Broadcast, Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems, Digital Sound Broadcasting (DSB), Conditional Access Systems (CAS), and Subscriber Management Systems (SMS) for television service providers.
Moreover, the collaboration will involve research on advanced broadcasting and network technologies such as Further evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (FeMBMS), application accessibility, intelligent user interfaces, and artificial intelligence capabilities over integrated broadband cable networks. The partnership will provide expert recommendations on emerging technologies and policy matters referred by relevant government bodies.
TEC and BECIL will engage in need-based technical consultations and contribute jointly to global organizations like the International Telecommunication Union’s Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T), Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), and the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). This collaboration is set to bolster India’s involvement in international standardization efforts and promote technological advancements in the broadcasting and convergence domains.
