Ten individuals have been detained by the Delhi Police following an FIR filed over a stone-pelting incident during a demolition drive near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in Old Delhi. The operation, close to Ramlila Ground, was aimed at clearing unauthorized structures from the mosque’s surroundings, as directed by the Delhi High Court on November 12, 2025.
The demolition commenced early Wednesday with a significant presence of civic staff and police, utilizing between 10 and 17 bulldozers for the operation. Residents gathered outside the mosque as the demolition progressed, protesting the action by raising slogans. The situation escalated when some individuals from the crowd hurled stones at security personnel, prompting the police to use tear gas to disperse the protesters.
The FIR has been registered under sections related to rioting, assault on a government servant, and obstruction of a public servant in the line of duty. The police have apprehended 10 individuals and are actively searching for others involved. Further updates on the situation are awaited.
