Tension arose in the Jharia area of Dhanbad, Jharkhand when a police team faced an attack with stones and country-made bombs during an anti-drink-and-drive operation. The incident occurred near Katras More on a Sunday evening, where individuals consuming alcohol in public clashed with the police, resulting in a violent confrontation. A patrol team from Jharia Police was conducting the operation when they encountered people drinking alcohol near a liquor shop at Katras More and instructed them to disperse.
Following the police’s instructions, some individuals began protesting, leading to a tense situation. Witnesses reported that a group of anti-social elements turned aggressive and started throwing stones at the police patrol vehicle. The situation escalated further when the attackers threw two country-made bombs, causing loud explosions and creating panic among residents and shopkeepers in the vicinity.
After the stone-pelting and explosions, fear spread in the area, prompting several shopkeepers to close their shops while pedestrians sought safety. Upon receiving information, personnel from Jharia Police Station and additional forces from nearby stations arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and brought the situation under control.
To reassure residents and uphold law and order, security forces conducted a flag march from Katras More to Singh Nagar. Police officials mentioned that extensive patrolling continued late into the night, with additional forces deployed to prevent further disturbances. An investigation has been initiated, with authorities reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits behind the stone-pelting and bomb attack. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the suspects.
