Bahadurguda village near Hyderabad Airport in Shamshabad, Telangana, is experiencing tension as authorities fence off 650 acres of land for a proposed high-speed train hub. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) removed farmers’ hunger strike camp and is fencing what it deems as government land under tight security.
Police have taken control of the village, restricting outsiders’ entry. Farmers clashed with the police on Saturday, protesting the allocation of land for the bullet train hub. They are demanding alternative land or fair compensation, arguing that despite lacking ownership titles, they have been farming the land for years.
The farmers have been protesting on the land for eight days, resisting the Revenue Department and HYDRAA personnel during the fencing process. They insist on fair compensation before giving up their land and have allegedly thrown stones and chilli powder at police personnel, resulting in minor injuries to some officers.
Residents claim that the village’s power supply was cut off, outsiders were barred from entering, and school buses were stopped, affecting students. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has supported the farmers’ protest against the government’s land acquisition. HYDRAA stated that real estate developers eye 650 acres of land near Shamshabad Airport due to its location adjacent to the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
