Tension escalated in Patna as police took action against teacher aspirants protesting for the release of the TRE-4 recruitment notification and changes to Bihar Public Service Commission regulations. Following the protest, police filed a case against four identified individuals and around 5,000 unidentified protesters involved in the unrest.
Diksha, SP Central of Patna district, mentioned that four people, including student leader Dilip Kumar, have been arrested. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the protest site to identify more participants, with several individuals currently undergoing questioning.
The protesters are accused of disrupting law and order, blocking traffic, and behaving inappropriately towards police officers during the demonstration, leading to injuries on both sides. However, the aspirants refute these claims, asserting that their protest was peaceful and that police resorted to a lathi-charge without provocation before filing false cases against them.
The protesting aspirants allege that key figures leading the movement, such as Dilip Kumar and Shahbaz, were held overnight at the police station and reportedly mistreated. They claim that the detained individuals were later taken to Gardanibagh Hospital for medical attention, while the administration is said to be preparing to transfer the arrested leaders to jail.
Demonstrators have been awaiting the TRE-4 teacher recruitment vacancies for nearly two years, expressing mounting frustration due to the delay in the official advertisement’s release despite assurances from the Education Department and BPSC. The protest march, originating from Patna College and heading towards the JP Roundabout area, resulted in a clash between the police and protesters, culminating in chaos and an alleged baton charge by the police.
Security has been heightened in the vicinity, with authorities closely monitoring the situation. This incident highlights the dissatisfaction among government job aspirants in Bihar regarding delayed recruitment processes and examination-related issues.
