A retired Indian Army personnel and another individual were killed in an ambush in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, leading to an ongoing tense situation. Security forces are conducting combing operations to locate the suspected Kuki militants responsible for the attack. The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has strongly condemned the killings and criticized the actions of the alleged Kuki militants.
Additional security personnel have been deployed to the incident site, with joint operations underway to apprehend the perpetrators. The NSCN-IM expressed concerns over the incident’s implications on the region’s stability and warned of potential defensive measures by the Nagas to protect their land. The group also raised allegations of collusion between Indian security forces and Kuki armed groups, undermining the political situation.
The victims, identified as Chinaoshang Shokwungnao and Yaruingam Vashum, both from the Naga community, were shot dead along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway. The armed conflict between Kuki and Tangkhul Naga groups in the Litan area has led to frequent blockades on the highway. Manipur’s Chief Minister has announced a thorough NIA probe into the shooting case and compensation for the victims’ families.
