Tension has heightened in Karnataka’s Ballari district following the fatal shooting of a Congress worker, identified as Rajashekar. The police have registered four cases, including a murder case, in response to the incident. Allegations have been made against some BJP leaders by the deceased’s family and Congress MLA Nara Bharat Reddy.
The Congress MLA has accused BJP MLA Janardhana Reddy of orchestrating the shooting and has demanded his immediate arrest. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the vicinity of Janardhana Reddy’s residence. The incident stemmed from clashes between supporters of Janardhana Reddy and Bharat Reddy over the installation of banners for Valmiki Jayanti celebrations.
The situation escalated into stone pelting, lathi charge, and firing, resulting in the tragic death of Congress worker Rajashekar. Investigations indicate that the fatal shot was fired from a private revolver, not by the police. Security measures have been put in place for the worker’s funeral, with additional forces deployed from neighboring districts to maintain peace.
“We have collected all CCTV footage and are analyzing it. So far, four cases have been registered,” stated SP Ranjit Kumar. Cases include murder allegations against supporters of MLA Bharat Reddy and an atrocity case against Janardhana Reddy. The police are actively investigating the incident and have taken control of the situation in Ballari city.
