The rivalry within Trinamool Congress’s legislative party in the West Bengal Assembly intensified as the “rebel but majority” group, led by expelled party legislator Ritabrata Banerjee, seized control of the party’s main office in Kolkata. Ritabrata, the current Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, along with other key members, including veteran MLA Arup Roy, displayed their authority by hoisting a banner at the office entrance.
A delegation from the “rebel but majority” faction, after meeting with the Election Commission of India to assert their claim on the party name and symbol, gathered at the party office for discussions and subsequently locked the main gate before leaving. Meanwhile, Kunal Ghosh, representing the “original but minority” faction loyal to Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, arrived at the office, vowing to open the locked gate, adding to the escalating tensions within the party.
The situation remains tense as Ghosh and his supporters await outside the party office in the Beliaghata Assembly constituency, where Ghosh serves as the party legislator, highlighting the ongoing power struggle within the Trinamool Congress.
