Thailand’s Democrat Party revealed its three candidates for the next Prime Minister in the upcoming general election. The candidates include party leader and former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, along with two deputy party leaders: Korn Chatikavanij and Karndee Leopairote. Abhisit stressed the importance of a clean political system and transparency to combat poverty in Thailand.
Abhisit, who previously served as Thailand’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2011, returned to lead the Democrat Party after a hiatus. The country is gearing up for elections on February 8, 2026, with parties required to submit their prime ministerial candidates by the end of December this year. Each party can nominate a maximum of three candidates.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul recently hinted at the possibility of dissolving parliament, emphasizing the need to empower the people. He outlined plans to enhance the security agency’s operations, focusing on combating cybercrime, illicit drugs, and environmental threats.
