Amid rising silver prices, a disturbing incident unfolded in Kothia village, Bhilwara district, Rajasthan. Thieves kidnapped a 90-year-old woman along with her cot in an attempt to steal 1.5 kg of silver jewelry. They later tied her up in a field before fleeing.
This incident follows a recent brutal murder in Sawai Madhopur, where a woman was killed for her silver ornaments, raising concerns about the safety of elderly women in rural areas. The theft in Bhilwara occurred when thieves broke into the house of former sarpanch Nathi Devi Mali with the intent to steal.
Before committing the crime, the culprits locked the family members in their rooms, leaving them trapped. The elderly mother-in-law, Chhoti Devi, was targeted while sleeping on a cot in the verandah due to the valuable silver jewelry she wore. The thieves gagged her, carried her to a field, and tied her up.
Upon discovering the situation, family members raised an alarm, prompting villagers to intervene and search for Chhoti Devi. Fortunately, she was found unharmed in the field as the thieves had fled. The prompt response prevented the theft of the silver jewelry, and the police have initiated a search operation for the perpetrators.
