A Thiruvananthapuram court has issued notices to former city Mayor Arya Rajendran and Balussery MLA K.M. Sachin Dev following a complaint by KSRTC driver Yadu. The notices were issued after the court admitted a petition challenging the police decision to exclude the two leaders from the charge sheet. Rajendran, Sachin Dev, and Arya have been directed to appear before the court on January 21. This action comes after Yadu sought to set aside the police charge sheet, which had only named Arya Rajendran’s brother as the accused. Yadu claims that the police made an error by omitting the names of Arya Rajendran and Sachin Dev from the charge sheet despite their alleged involvement. He demands that they be included as accused and that the investigation be reopened.
Yadu alleges that a crucial piece of evidence, the CCTV memory card from the KSRTC bus, was destroyed under pressure from Rajendran and Sachin Dev. He contends that the footage showed Sachin Dev engaging in violent behavior on the bus. Yadu further accuses the police of biased and incomplete investigation, claiming they were initially reluctant to register a case against the former mayor.
The court’s decision to issue notices is seen as a positive development for the complainant. The case is expected to proceed in January, where the court will decide on Yadu’s request for reinvestigation and the inclusion of additional accused. The incident occurred in April last year and has drawn significant attention, with social media discussions linking it to political outcomes in the region.
