A total of 14,539 Afghan refugee families, comprising 97,277 individuals, have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran in the past month. The returnees crossed into Afghanistan through various border points. Immediate assistance, including essentials like food, water, healthcare, and transportation, has been provided to all returning families.
The majority of these returning families have come back from Pakistan. Since the current Afghan government assumed power in August 2021, over 8 million Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland. India recently contributed family tents to support the shelter and rehabilitation needs of Afghan returnees.
Afghanistan has been experiencing a significant influx of returnees, particularly from Pakistan, as Islamabad intensifies efforts to repatriate refugees and undocumented migrants. Recent reports indicate a surge in the number of Afghan refugees returning daily from Pakistan. Authorities at the transit point in Landi Kotal noted a daily influx exceeding 10,000 returnees following Pakistan’s directive for Afghan nationals to return.
