Thousands of young cyclists convened at the Sabarmati Riverfront Event Centre in Ahmedabad to participate in a cycling event celebrating Commonwealth Games Day and the 75th edition of ‘Fit India: Sundays on Cycle’. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the importance of citizens’ fitness in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
The event, which commenced at 6 a.m., attracted a large number of residents, especially youth from Ahmedabad. Notable figures present included Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, Olympic medallist Gagan Narang, and Olympic Association representative Ajay Patel.
Mandaviya highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it coincided with both Commonwealth Games Day and the 75th edition of the cycling initiative. He expressed pride in Gujarat hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2030.
Emphasizing the importance of fitness in national development, Mandaviya underscored the three key benefits of cycling, labeling it as the best exercise for maintaining physical fitness. He also pointed out the role of cycling in reducing pollution and fuel consumption for short-distance travel.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi praised the growing public interest in fitness activities, humorously remarking on the challenges of waking up early for fitness in Gujarat. Sanghavi commended the enthusiastic participation of Ahmedabad’s youth in the Fit India initiative.
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana advocated for promoting sports beyond cricket and expressed optimism that fitness programs under the Prime Minister’s guidance would inspire youngsters to excel in international sporting events. Olympic shooter Gagan Narang also partook in the cycling event alongside numerous participants.
