Three Baloch young men were reportedly forcibly disappeared in overnight raids in Pakistan, raising concerns over enforced disappearances. Zubair Baloch, a Baloch student, was taken from his home in Dera Ghazi Khan during the early hours of Wednesday. Family members claim he was moved to an undisclosed location with no information provided on his whereabouts.
In a separate incident, two young men from Jiwani area of Balochistan’s Gwadar district were also taken from their homes during overnight raids. The two men, Riaz Sayed and Jahanzaib, were identified and taken to an unknown place. Their families have been unable to contact them since the raids. These incidents add to the increasing wave of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan.
A protest camp against enforced disappearances in Quetta city of Pakistan’s Balochistan province marked its 6136th day on Thursday. Organized by the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), the camp outside the Quetta Press Club saw several people joining to express solidarity with the families of the missing persons. The demand remains for the recovery of all missing persons and an immediate end to enforced disappearances.
Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) senior leader Sabiha Baloch recently highlighted human rights concerns in Balochistan province at the United Nations Human Rights Council. She urged the UN to conduct an independent review of the human rights situation in the region. Baloch emphasized the issue of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and harassment faced by journalists, students, lawyers, and human rights activists in Balochistan.
