Three members of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of the Chhattisgarh Police sustained injuries in two separate Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosions on Sunday during an anti-Maoist operation in the Karregutta hills. The blasts occurred in the border area of Dantewada and Bijapur districts, well-known for their dense forests and challenging terrain.
Acting on specific intelligence, a combined team of police from Dantewada and Bijapur, along with CRPF units and DRG forces, initiated a significant encirclement operation early in the morning to root out Maoist insurgents from the remote Karregutta region. The first blast took place around 10 am, followed by another in the afternoon at different locations within the operation zone. All three injured personnel are from the DRG unit and were hurt by the powerful explosions set up by Maoists to target security forces.
Bijapur’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Chandrakant Gavarna, confirmed the incident and mentioned that the injured officers were swiftly evacuated from the scene. They were airlifted to a private hospital in Raipur, the state capital, for advanced medical care. Their condition is currently being assessed, with initial reports indicating they are receiving necessary treatment.
This attack comes amidst heightened anti-Maoist operations in the southern districts of Chhattisgarh, where security forces have been actively working to dismantle Maoist networks. The Karregutta hills have been focal points in previous offensives, leading to significant recoveries of weapons, ammunition, and explosives, as well as the elimination of numerous insurgents.
