Three Congress MLAs in Assam, namely Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Basant Das, and Sashikanta Das, have switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The trio was formally welcomed into the BJP at the party’s state headquarters in Guwahati, in the presence of state president Dilip Saikia and other senior leaders.
Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, speaking on behalf of the group, emphasized that their decision to join the BJP was motivated by the broader interests of Assam and the nation. He expressed their commitment to align with the BJP’s principles and contribute to the progress and security of the state and the country.
Basant Das cited the developmental initiatives led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as a key factor influencing his move to the BJP. He highlighted the visible progress witnessed in his constituency under the current government and pledged to continue supporting Assam’s advancement under CM Sarma’s leadership.
Sashikanta Das praised CM Sarma’s efforts to foster unity among the people of Assam. He criticized the Congress for what he perceived as a departure from its original principles and expressed confidence in the BJP’s potential to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
