Three District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans lost their lives in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district during a demining operation when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists detonated unexpectedly. The incident occurred while the security team was conducting demining activities in the border areas of Kanker and Narayanpur districts.
The blast occurred in a forested area near Chhote Bethiya police station, where the DRG unit was working to locate and defuse suspected Maoist IEDs. Four DRG members were injured in the explosion, with Inspector Sukhram Vatti, Constable Krishna Komra, and Constable Sanjay Gadhpale tragically succumbing to their injuries on-site. Constable Parmanand Komra, the fourth injured personnel, is currently receiving medical treatment.
Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj Pattilingam mentioned that security forces in the Bastar region have been successful in neutralizing numerous IEDs planted by Maoists based on intelligence inputs. However, the recent incident resulted in the unexpected detonation of an IED during the neutralization process, causing the tragic loss of three police personnel and critical injuries to another.
