Three individuals tragically lost their lives due to suspected suffocation while cleaning a water sump at a residence in Immadihalli, Whitefield. The deceased were identified as Munishamappa, the house owner aged 67, Rudhra Kumar, a 40-year-old plumber, and Vishwanath Achari, a 24-year-old delivery executive. The incident occurred near Immadihalli Temple Circle, behind the Panchamuki Anjaneya Temple, within the jurisdiction of the Whitefield Police Station.
Munishamappa had entered the water sump to clean it, using chemical agents, when he faced breathing difficulties from toxic fumes and collapsed inside. Rudhra Kumar, upon noticing Munishamappa’s absence, entered the sump to check on him and also collapsed. Subsequently, Vishwanath Achari, who arrived to inquire about the situation, entered the sump and lost consciousness under similar circumstances.
The bodies of Munishamappa and Rudhra Kumar were rushed to Manipal Hospital, Whitefield, while Vishwanath Achari was taken to Vydehi Hospital. Unfortunately, all three were declared brought dead by doctors. Post-mortem examinations and legal procedures are underway at Vydehi Hospital, where the bodies have been shifted. Police have registered a case and initial investigations suggest suffocation due to inhaling toxic fumes as the cause of death.
In a separate incident earlier this month, a 14-year-old boy, previously reported missing, was discovered deceased inside a pipeline chamber of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board on February 3. A case of causing death by negligence was filed against BWSSB officials in that regard. Additionally, on February 15, a three-year-old boy drowned in an artificial pond during a maternity photoshoot at a studio on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The child, accompanying his mother to a studio in Giddenahalli near Madanayakanahalli, wandered off unnoticed and was later found in the photography pond.
