Three individuals tragically lost their lives in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district early Thursday morning when a private bus collided with a container lorry and caught fire. The bus, en route from Nellore to Hyderabad, lost control due to a tire burst, crossed the road divider, and collided with the oncoming lorry carrying motorcycles, resulting in a fiery accident.
The drivers of both vehicles and the lorry’s cleaner were among the fatalities, while all passengers survived, with four sustaining minor fractures and receiving treatment at Nandyal District Government Hospital. Passersby, along with the bus cleaner and conductor, played a crucial role in rescuing trapped passengers by breaking windows and assisting them to safety.
Emergency services, including police and firefighters, swiftly responded to the scene, where both vehicles were engulfed in flames. The incident caused significant traffic disruptions, requiring the deployment of cranes to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow. Preliminary investigations indicated that the collision and subsequent fire were triggered by the tire burst that led to the loss of control.
In a tragic parallel, a similar accident in Kurnool district last October claimed 19 lives when a private bus caught fire after running over a motorbike on the road. The bus became engulfed in flames as the motorbike got lodged underneath, causing a spark and fuel leakage that ignited the deadly blaze.
