At least three individuals lost their lives, and numerous others sustained injuries when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus, carrying over 30 passengers, veered off the road and fell into a deep ditch in Dehradun’s Vikasnagar area. The tragic incident occurred near Sudoi Khad in the Kwanu area while the bus was en route from Chaupal-Nerwa to Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh. Three passengers died on the spot, with over 15 individuals reported to have suffered severe injuries.
The bus, which had departed from the Chaupal depot and was heading towards Paonta Sahib via the Minas-Kwanu-Haripur route, met with the accident around 10 a.m. The mishap was triggered when the road embankment collapsed while the bus was maneuvering to make way for a truck near Sudoi Khad on the Minas-Kwanu-Haripur road. This led to the bus losing balance, swerving multiple times, and ultimately plunging into the deep ditch.
Following the crash, local residents promptly responded by assisting in the rescue and relief operations. Upon being informed of the tragedy, teams from the police administration and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed sorrow over the incident and assured that the district administration and police were actively engaged in relief efforts. He also mentioned that nearby medical facilities were on high alert, ready to airlift and provide advanced medical care to any critically injured passengers.
Rescue and relief operations are currently ongoing, with authorities awaiting further updates on the situation.
