Three migrant workers lost their lives, and one was critically injured in an incident at an industrial unit in Kalol, Gujarat. The tragedy occurred inside an underground effluent treatment plant tank at Mafatlal Gujarat Industries Limited. The workers were involved in cleaning the tank used for treating colored wastewater.
The cleaning process involved workers entering the tank sequentially using an iron ladder with plastic containers tied to ropes. Unfortunately, the first two workers who entered the tank became unconscious, likely due to oxygen deficiency or toxic gases. In a rescue attempt, two more individuals entered the tank but also lost consciousness.
The victims were identified as Amit Parihar, Amarkumar Shrivastav, and Shivnath Dubey, who tragically did not survive the incident. Anil Lodhi, the worker who survived, is currently under medical observation. The police suspect the cause of the incident to be suffocation from toxic gas accumulation or low oxygen levels inside the tank.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, registering a case of accidental death. The Forensic Science Laboratory teams have been called in to examine the site for hazardous gases and other contributing factors. Officials are also looking into whether proper safety measures and protective equipment were provided to the workers during the cleaning operation.
