Three individuals lost their lives when the car they were in crashed through the railing and fell into the Patharauta canal on the Bhopal-Betul National Highway in Itarsi. The bodies were recovered, and the car was retrieved the following day.
The tragic incident occurred as the car, an I-20, veered out of control and broke through the bridge railing, plunging into the canal. Despite an eyewitness attempting a rescue by jumping into the water, the car doors could not be opened.
The car, carrying three young men, was reportedly headed from Kesla towards Itarsi when the accident happened. Inside the vehicle, a bottle of liquor was found, indicating alcohol consumption by the occupants.
The high speed at which the car broke through the railing and entered the canal suggests that the driver had lost control of the vehicle. Authorities, including the Itarsi and Patharauta police and the NDRF team, worked to retrieve the submerged car from the canal.
The SDRF Platoon Commander mentioned that the rescue operation lasted around 1-1.5 hours due to the car being submerged. An identity card belonging to Lucky Patel was discovered in the vehicle, adding a lead to the investigation.
Police teams are actively seeking CCTV footage from nearby roadside eateries to gather more information about the accident. The deceased individuals have been identified as Shivram Tiwari (26), Abhay Chouhan (19), and Luky Patel (30).
