Three cricketers from Puducherry, namely J Karthiyeyan, A Aravindaraj, and S Santhosh Kumaran, have been suspended from all cricket activities by the Cricket Association of Puducherry (CAP) due to serious allegations of assault on an Under-19 coach. The CAP stated that the trio faced charges of attempted murder and assault on Venkataraman, the U19 coach, with the incident occurring on December 8, 2025. A chargesheet has been filed at Sedurapet Police Station, and the matter is awaiting resolution before the Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate, IV Court, Puducherry.
Taking a firm stand, the CAP imposed immediate penalties on the players. They have been suspended with immediate effect from all cricket activities under the CAP’s jurisdiction. Additionally, they are prohibited from entering the CAP Siechem campus in Tutipet, Pondicherry, and any other CAP-controlled premises until further notice.
The association clarified that the three cricketers are barred from representing CAP in any capacity in domestic or external cricket events. The suspension is indefinite and will persist until the court clears the accused of all charges, as per CAP’s announcement.
The suspension comes at a challenging time for Puducherry’s domestic cricket campaign, which has faced difficulties in gaining momentum. The team’s recent participation in the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy season resulted in a sixth-place finish in Group D, with only one victory in seven matches. As the legal proceedings continue, the future of the suspended players remains uncertain pending the court’s decision.
