A tragic incident unfolded in Jhalaria village, Madhya Pradesh, as three-year-old Bhagirath fell into an open borewell and was tragically declared dead after a challenging rescue operation. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offering financial assistance to the grieving family. The Chief Minister termed the incident “extremely painful” and extended his condolences to the family.

The unfortunate event occurred when the child accidentally slipped into the uncovered borewell while playing near his house. The narrow and deep structure of the borewell posed significant challenges to the rescue efforts, leading to a complex emergency response involving multiple agencies. Teams from the district administration, police, SDERF, and NDRF were swiftly deployed to the site to assist in the rescue operation.

A comprehensive multi-agency rescue operation was initiated and continued relentlessly over Thursday night and into Friday. Rescue teams made various attempts to establish contact with the child, including supplying oxygen through pipes and using cameras to track his position inside the borewell. Additionally, heavy machinery was employed to dig a parallel pit in a bid to reach the child safely.

Despite facing obstacles such as loose soil, depth issues, and the risk of collapse, rescue workers persevered with caution, ensuring the safety of the operation. After hours of concerted efforts, the child was successfully retrieved from the borewell but was unfortunately found unresponsive. Medical examination confirmed his demise, prompting authorities to launch an inquiry into the incident, focusing on the negligence surrounding the uncovered borewell.

Efforts are now underway to identify and seal open borewells in the district to prevent similar tragedies, as officials work to ensure the safety of the community and prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
