In a tragic incident near Gopalpura village in UP’s Jalaun district, three young men drowned in the Pahuj River while seeking relief from the summer heat. The victims, part of a group from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district attending a wedding, were swept away by strong currents in the river. Despite efforts to rescue them, the youths could not be saved.
Local authorities were alerted, and a search operation involving police, divers, and villagers led to the recovery of the bodies. The deceased were identified as Jagmohan Baghel, 19, Sudeep Baghel, 17, and Avneebh Yadav, 20. The police have taken custody of the bodies for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Eyewitnesses noted the deceptive shallowness of the river near the banks, which sharply drops into dangerous depths. Authorities are investigating the incident, considering factors like negligence or lack of awareness about the river’s conditions. They urge the public to exercise caution near rivers, especially during unpredictable summer months.
