Hours after the BJP revealed its candidates, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) disclosed its nominees for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). TMP leaders, including founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma and President Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, unveiled the candidate list. Notably, Jagadish Debbarma and Purna Chandra Jamatia will seek re-election from Jirania and Killa-Bagma, respectively.
TMP’s chief, Debbarma, firmly stated no alliance with the BJP for the April 12 TTAADC elections without progress on the tripartite accord signed in 2024. Emphasizing the need for tangible action over mere assurances, he highlighted the significance of commitments being translated into real outcomes. Discussions on seat-sharing between the BJP and TMP had been ongoing, with TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma confirming talks with BJP leaders in Delhi.
Debbarma positioned the upcoming elections as pivotal for the Tiprasa community’s identity, rights, and future, emphasizing a resolute stance on these issues. In contrast, Tripura BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee announced the BJP’s intention to contest all 28 seats, focusing on effective governance for the tribal population’s holistic development. The TTAADC elections, set for April 12, are crucial in the state’s political landscape.
