Chennai, Aug 1 (IANS) Former Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK MLA V. Senthil Balaji on Saturday appeared before the Triplicane D1 Police Station in Chennai and signed the register for the sixth consecutive day in connection with a case involving alleged horse-trading of a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA.
Speaking to reporters after completing the formalities, Senthil Balaji maintained that his name did not figure in the First Information Report registered in connection with the alleged attempt to induce the TVK legislator. He said he would face the proceedings through legal means and establish that the allegations against him were false.
The former Minister also referred to a separate case registered against him by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), following which searches were conducted at premises linked to him. He said he had approached the Supreme Court and secured anticipatory bail in that matter.
Senthil Balaji said he had submitted a petition seeking time to consult his lawyers regarding the anticipatory bail proceedings and the legal course to be adopted. He asserted that he was prepared to cooperate with the judicial process and contest all the cases against him before the appropriate courts.
Taking aim at the State government, the DMK leader alleged that it was concentrating on registering cases against him instead of addressing issues affecting the people.
He said a constructive government should focus on resolving public grievances and implementing welfare measures rather than spending its time pursuing cases against political opponents.
Senthil Balaji alleged that the government was repeatedly targeting him through legal proceedings and investigations. He, however, expressed confidence that he would be able to prove in court that the cases filed against him were false.
The former Minister said he was prepared to face every allegation legally and would continue to avail himself of the remedies available under the law.
Saturday’s appearance was part of the conditions requiring Senthil Balaji to report at the Triplicane D1 Police Station and sign the register. It marked the sixth consecutive day that he complied with the requirement. He reiterated that he would continue to comply with the conditions imposed on him while pursuing his legal challenge to the cases.
