Token distribution for the annual Amarnath Yatra started at the Tawi River Front in Jammu city. Pilgrims can collect tokens ahead of the official registration process beginning the next day.
A total of 1,600 tokens have been issued, with 800 each allocated for the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Those receiving tokens on Tuesday can complete their registration the following day before embarking on the pilgrimage.
Elaborate security measures are in place at the Tawi River Front to ensure a smooth and secure token distribution process. Security personnel are deployed in the area to monitor and provide a safe environment for all pilgrims.
For the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026, the Jammu district administration has set up 18 on-the-spot registration and token counters. Token generation begins at 6:00 a.m. and each eligible person is issued only one token. Pilgrims undergo e-KYC and RFID registration the day after receiving their tokens.
The Amarnath Yatra, starting on July 3 and ending on August 28, coincides with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. The cave shrine, located at 3880 ft above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas, offers two routes for pilgrims – the traditional Pahalgam route and the shorter Baltal route.
Pilgrims using the Pahalgam route reach the cave shrine after four days, while those on the Baltal route return the same day after darshan. The cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure believed to symbolize the powers of Lord Shiva.
This year, due to the route being declared a ‘no-fly zone’, helicopters are not available for devotees during the Yatra.
