Top golfer Honey Baisoya was the highest bid at 20.5 lakh in the player auction for the inaugural edition of PGTI’s 72 The League in New Delhi. The auction saw 16-year-old Kartik Singh as the youngest player to be bought. USA’s Jhared Hack emerged as the costliest foreign player at Rs 15.80 lakh.
Six city-based franchises participated in the auction, each with a budget of Rs 1 crore to select ten professionals for their squads. The teams included Capital Lancers, Charminar Champions, Kolkata Classics, Mumbai Aces, Rajasthan Regals, and UP Prometheans. In-form player Honey Baisoya, fresh from his DP World Players Championship victory, attracted significant attention, closely followed by young talent Shubham Jaglan.
Honey Baisoya, placed in the Platinum category with a base price of Rs 10 lakh, was eventually secured by Capital Lancers for a hefty sum of Rs 20.5 lakh after a competitive bidding war. Meanwhile, Arjun Prasad, with recent top-10 finishes, was acquired by UP Prometheans for Rs 18 lakh.
The auction also witnessed a remarkable rise for young talent Shubham Jaglan, who was placed in the Silver category with a base price of Rs 3 lakh. Jaglan was eventually picked by Charminar Champions for Rs 19 lakh, significantly exceeding his starting value. Additionally, 16-year-old Kartik Singh fetched a notable Rs 14.40 lakh from Mumbai Aces after intense bidding.
Experienced Indian golfer Mukesh Kumar, aged 60, found a spot with Kolkata Classics for Rs 7 lakh. Among the international players, Jhared Hack led the foreign contingent with a bid of Rs 15.80 lakh, secured by Capital Lancers.
The auction was a mix of excitement and anticipation for the players. Honey Baisoya expressed his joy and gratitude for the successful auction, highlighting his recent good fortunes. Shubham Jaglan, thrilled to join Charminar Champions, looked forward to the upcoming season with enthusiasm.
The first season of 72 The League, a collaboration between PGTI and Game of Life Sports (GOLS), is set to commence on February 21 across three prestigious golf venues in Delhi-NCR — Classic Golf & Country Club, Jaypee Greens, and Qutab Golf Course.
