Traditional handicrafts and Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products from Central Gujarat, such as Ahmedabad’s Sodagari Block Print, Mata ni Pachedi, and Agates of Cambay, will be showcased at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) in Vadodara in late June. The conference aims to blend industrial investment opportunities with cultural displays, emphasizing products with GI tags or in the registration process.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative and the ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’ vision, the event seeks to empower traditional industries and connect local artisans with global markets. Among the highlighted crafts are Ahmedabad Sodagari Block Print, a centuries-old hand-block textile printing tradition with a GI tag since 2024, and Mata ni Pachedi, a sacred textile art recognized in 2023.
Additionally, the conference will feature Pithora Painting, a ritual mural art with a GI tag from 2021, and Pethapur Printing Blocks, a wood-carving craft acknowledged in 2018. Agates of Cambay, a semi-precious stone craft linked to the Harappan civilization and granted GI status in 2008, will also be on display. Sankheda Furniture, known for its unique lacquered finish and intricate woodwork, will be showcased alongside other crafts.
The event will not only exhibit cultural and handicraft displays but also include vendor development programs, trade exhibitions, and sector-specific pavilions. It will host various activities like the inauguration of industrial projects, awards for small enterprises, and networking sessions. The conference agenda also encompasses entrepreneurship fairs, site visits, and international partnership agreements.
