The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced the reopening of traffic on the Pune-Mumbai Missing Link Road of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This comes after extensive safety operations were completed to ensure the road’s safety. Despite challenging monsoon conditions, including heavy rainfall and low visibility, MSRDC teams worked tirelessly to clear debris from the affected area.
CM Fadnavis confirmed the resumption of traffic at the “Connecting Link” in a social media post, emphasizing the restoration of vehicular movement and the government’s efforts to ensure safety for all. Following a landslide triggered by incessant rains, the Missing Link was temporarily closed on Monday morning. MSRDC undertook various measures, including thorough cleaning of the carriageway using specialized equipment and detailed inspections by technical experts to mitigate risks.
Drone surveys were attempted, but adverse weather conditions hindered aerial operations, including dense fog and heavy rain. Traffic was only allowed to resume after comprehensive safety and technical assessments were carried out. Commuters have been advised to avoid non-essential travel during the heavy monsoon season and adhere strictly to traffic advisories issued by authorities. MSRDC remains dedicated to providing safe and reliable travel experiences for all road users.
MSRDC attributed the landslide incident to natural causes, describing it as an “Act of God.” An official from MSRDC defended the construction team, asserting that the contractor was not responsible as the event was purely due to natural factors. While acknowledging the implementation of landslide mitigation measures, MSRDC highlighted the operational limitations faced during such extreme events.
