A tragic incident unfolded at the Bakchapra Ganga Ghat in Munger district, Bihar, where five girls are feared drowned in the Ganga River. The girls, identified as Sangeeta Kumari, Binita Kumari, Sandhya Kumari, Sonam Kumari, and Hina Kumari, were swept away by strong currents while bathing at the ghat. Eyewitnesses reported that the group was quickly pulled into deeper water by the river’s strong current.
The girls, four of whom were sisters, had gone to the ghat to bathe and collect holy water when the tragedy occurred. Despite attempts by locals to rescue them, the girls could not be saved as the river’s flow intensified. Sangeeta Kumari’s body was recovered by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, while the search for the remaining four girls is still ongoing. Search operations, involving boats and diving teams, are being conducted to locate the missing girls.
As news of the incident spread, a large crowd gathered at the riverbank, causing panic and distress in the area. The rising water levels of the Ganga due to seasonal conditions have made the currents stronger, increasing the danger at bathing spots. Authorities have advised the public to avoid entering deep water and to closely supervise children and teenagers near rivers and ghats. The search operation continues, with authorities committed to finding all missing persons.
