A tragic incident unfolded at the Dayanand Crematorium on Lodhi Road in New Delhi when a wall collapsed during sewer line excavation work, trapping three workers. Sadly, one worker lost their life on the spot, while the other two are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
The mishap occurred around 1:00 A.M. while workers were involved in drain excavation near the crematorium premises, causing chaos due to the sudden wall collapse. Eyewitness Bhagwan Das recounted that the laborers were caught under the debris as the wall gave way unexpectedly.
Officials from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) confirmed that the collapse occurred during pipeline-laying work, leaving three workers trapped. Prompt rescue efforts were initiated with the deployment of JCB machines to clear the debris and aid in the rescue operation. Preliminary findings indicate that the accident resulted from the structural failure during excavation work.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the collapse and to determine if any safety oversights or negligence played a role in the tragedy. This incident follows closely on the heels of another construction-related accident in the area, where a crane overturned during work on the Jewar Airport flyover, resulting in casualties and trapping several laborers.
