A tragic boat accident in Patna’s Barh subdivision resulted in the loss of at least three lives, with four individuals currently missing. The incident occurred when a small boat carrying 14 villagers capsized in the Ganga River at Umanath Ganga Ghat. The victims were en route to the Diara region for vegetable harvesting when the boat overturned due to strong winds.
Local fishermen and boatmen quickly initiated rescue efforts upon the capsizing of the boat. Seven individuals were successfully rescued and brought to safety with the help of local residents. Unfortunately, the bodies of three victims have been recovered from the river, while four passengers remain unaccounted for.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local divers have launched a large-scale search operation to locate the missing individuals. Concerns have been raised that the strong river currents may have carried the missing passengers downstream, necessitating an expanded search area. Senior officials from the Barh subdivision are overseeing the rescue and relief operations at the site.
As the news of the accident spread, a crowd of anxious residents and relatives gathered along the riverbank. Authorities are in the process of identifying the deceased and fulfilling legal requirements, while survivors are receiving necessary medical attention and first aid. Initial investigations suggest that overloading and strong winds likely contributed to the boat capsizing, although a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Barh subdivisional hospital for post-mortem examinations.
