A devastating fire at a building in New Delhi’s Palam resulted in the loss of nine lives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for each deceased person’s family. The fire broke out in a multi-storey building at Ram Market, Palam, early in the morning, leading to nine fatalities and several injuries.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has initiated a magisterial investigation into the incident. The fire started in a four-storey building at WZ-124A, Ram Chowk Market, where a cloth and cosmetic showroom was located on the lower floors, and the upper floors were occupied by the owner’s family. Rescue teams successfully evacuated some individuals from the building and transferred them to nearby hospitals.
Several casualties were reported at different medical facilities. Eight individuals lost their lives at Manipal Hospital, including Pravesh (33), Kamal (39), Ashu (35), Lado (70), Himanshi (22), and three minor girls aged 15, 6, and 3 years. At IGI Hospital, one woman named Deepika (approximately 28 years old) was pronounced dead upon arrival, while a man named Anil (around 32 years old) and a two-year-old girl are currently receiving treatment. Safdarjung Hospital admitted a man named Sachin (29) with severe burn injuries.
