A compartment of a stationary train caught fire at Katwa station in East Burdwan district on Sunday morning. The incident occurred on platform number two of the Katwa-Azimganj train, but the fire was swiftly extinguished, and fortunately, there were no casualties. Passengers at the station noticed the fire around 4:30 a.m. and promptly alerted the authorities.
The fire, suspected to have originated from a short circuit, led to the separation of the affected compartment, with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) now investigating the cause. Train services were momentarily disrupted due to the incident, causing delays and diversions, but operations have since returned to normal.
Railway officials, including the fire brigade, responded promptly to the situation, ensuring that the fire was contained without further escalation. The disruption primarily impacted services at Katwa station, with minimal effect on the busy Burdwan station nearby.
