The trial in the National Investigation Agency’s terror conspiracy case involving former Popular Front of India (PFI) Chairman E. Abubacker and other office-bearers is set to start on July 29. All 21 accused, including Abubacker, pleaded not guilty before a Delhi court and will face trial under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code.
The accused are charged with offenses such as waging war against the Government of India, criminal conspiracy, and other terror-related acts. The Special NIA Court fixed the trial commencement date after dismissing the accused’s discharge applications, citing grave suspicion based on the evidence.
The case involves allegations that the accused, through PFI, conspired to overthrow the Indian government and establish an Islamic Caliphate by 2047 using violent methods. The NIA claims the conspiracy included radicalization, weapons training camps, fundraising, and support for extremist activities.
