Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly, Babulal Marandi, sees Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik’s resignation as a shift in the tribal community’s political stance. Marandi believes this move signifies a move away from appeasement and dynastic politics towards nationalism and development-oriented policies. He noted that Baraik’s resignation reflects a broader tribal confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Marandi emphasized that the tribal community in Jharkhand is closely monitoring the BJP’s commitment to issues like water, forest, land, culture, and dignity. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for garnering newfound respect and political representation for the tribal community. Marandi also suggested that the tribal community’s increasing support for the BJP could significantly influence regional politics.
Baraik, after resigning from the Rajya Sabha, also severed ties with the Trinamool Congress. He cited the specific mandate of the West Bengal Assembly elections as the reason behind his resignation. Baraik’s departure marks the third resignation of a Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member in four days, reducing the party’s strength in the Rajya Sabha from 13 to 10 members.
