Amirul Sheikh Islam, a Trinamool Congress councillor from Pujali Municipality in West Bengal, was arrested under the Arms Act 1959. He was detained at Kolkata Airport in September 2025 for carrying a magazine and ammunition without proper documents. Despite claiming to possess authorization, he failed to furnish the required paperwork.
Police arrested Islam after he repeatedly ignored requests to provide the necessary documents. An investigation officer stated that a new case was registered against him due to his failure to comply. Questions were raised earlier about police leniency towards Islam, but his arrest was made on Wednesday, ending the controversy.
