The Trinamool Congress faction led by Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Ritabrata Banerjee has ousted party supremo Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. A new committee, headed by Howrah Madhya Assembly MLA Arup Roy, was formed by the rebel camp of Trinamool MLAs at a special session in Kolkata.
Following the budget session in the state Assembly, around 60 rebel Trinamool MLAs, along with 70 former councillors of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, gathered at a hotel. They announced the formation of a 30-member committee, citing Article 20 of the Trinamool Party constitution.
The rebel faction established a new national working committee, with MLA Arup Roy as the chairman. A vice-chairman and treasurer were also appointed, including former state minister Aroop Biswas as vice-chairman. Additionally, vice-chairmen roles were given to MLAs Firhad Hakim and Rathin Ghosh, while general secretaries and a treasurer were also named.
