The husband of a Trinamool Congress panchayat member was discovered murdered in West Bengal’s Hooghly district. The Trinamool Congress accused BJP workers of beating him to death, a claim denied by the BJP. The body of the Trinamool leader, identified as Sahadev Bagh, was found with multiple injuries behind the party office.
Local residents found Sahadev’s body in a drain behind the Trinamool party office on Sunday morning. His wife, China Bagh, who is also a Trinamool Congress member, stated that BJP workers had been threatening her husband since the election results were declared. The deceased’s daughter mentioned that threats had escalated after the party’s election loss.
China Bagh demanded justice for her husband’s death, alleging that BJP workers abducted and killed him. Trinamool leader Shashank Dhak claimed that the BJP was responsible for the murder. In contrast, the BJP denied the allegations, emphasizing their commitment to non-violent politics and calling for a thorough police investigation into the incident.
The police have initiated a post-mortem examination on the deceased’s body to ascertain the cause of death.
