Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra attributed his departure from Mamata Banerjee’s faction to MP Abhishek Banerjee’s “Hitlerian attitude.” Mitra emphasized that he remains loyal to Trinamool Congress despite relinquishing all party posts.
In response, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra suggested that Mitra’s move was influenced by his family members being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). She insinuated that Mitra’s switch to the rival faction was prompted by the ED’s invitation.
Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee commented that MPs and MLAs have the freedom to make their own choices, asserting that the people of West Bengal and Trinamool workers stand by Mamata Banerjee. He hinted that individuals seek safety and peace where there is no external pressure from authorities.
Despite joining the opposition, Mitra expressed gratitude towards Mamata Banerjee for her support to party members over the years. He confirmed his attendance at the rival faction’s Martyrs’ Day event in Kolkata on July 21.
