Even as authorities search for Trinamool Congress Bishnupur MLA Dilip Mandal over alleged threatening remarks towards the opposition, his son Arghya Mandal and four others have been apprehended. Arghya was taken into custody with firearms, accused of inciting unrest in the region. A joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police and Diamond Harbour District Police led to the arrest of five individuals, including Arghya, in the Bakkhali-Fraserganj area near the Bay of Bengal.
Officials are currently interrogating the arrested individuals to ascertain if others were involved in the incident. Dilip Mandal, the Trinamool MLA from Bishnupur in the South 24 Parganas district, gained attention after a video surfaced on social media where he allegedly made threatening remarks towards workers and supporters of a rival party. Following a complaint, authorities raided his residence, which was also visited by central forces’ jawans. However, Dilip was not present during the operation.
The police conducted searches at both of the MLA’s residences in the Pailan area, revealing a luxurious house with amenities like a swimming pool, ornate statues, a fountain, and a cave-like structure in the courtyard. Questions arose regarding the source of Dilip’s wealth as a public figure after the discovery of his opulent property. Subsequently, efforts to locate the Trinamool Congress leader have intensified.
