Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee has issued a legal notice to party rebel Madan Mitra for spreading false and defamatory statements about him on social media. The notice demands Mitra to pay Rs 10 crore as compensation for damaging Abhishek’s reputation and political standing.
The legal notice also requires Mitra to issue a public apology in both written and video formats for the defamatory remarks made during a live video on July 19, 2026. Additionally, the compensation amount is to be deposited into a registered trust to aid in legal proceedings against defected MPs and MLAs of AITC.
Abhishek’s counsel emphasized that Mitra must respond to the notice within three days and comply with its terms. The notice warns of legal action if the demands are not met promptly, asserting the preservation of all legal rights and remedies available to Abhishek.
