Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha participated in the initial phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, emphasizing the significance of voting as a democratic duty and his connection to the state. Sinha expressed his commitment to voting, stating that it is a national obligation that he has always fulfilled and will continue to do so. Across West Bengal, voters showed strong engagement in the electoral process during the first phase of polling.

Polling commenced at 7 a.m. across 152 Assembly constituencies spanning 16 districts in the first phase of the two-phase elections. High voter enthusiasm was evident with long queues observed outside polling stations in both urban and rural areas. The voter turnout reached 61.18 percent, indicating substantial public involvement in this critical phase of the elections.

During this phase, various districts including Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, North and South Dinajpur, and Malda in North Bengal, along with Murshidabad, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, West Burdwan, and Birbhum in South Bengal, participated in the polling process. The first phase, covering a diverse range of constituencies, has been closely monitored with extensive security measures in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process.

The second phase of polling for the remaining 142 Assembly constituencies is scheduled for April 29, with the vote counting set for May 4.
