The rebel faction within Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, led by expelled legislator Ritabrata Banerjee, is set to meet the Election Commission of India in New Delhi. They aim to stake claim on the party’s logo and funds. The rebel group, comprising 60 out of 80 legislators, has formed a new committee and is in a legal battle with the party’s original faction.
A team of 10 legislators from the rebel camp, led by Ritabrata, will head to New Delhi for the meeting. The conflict arose when the rebel group removed Mamata Banerjee as the party’s national chairperson. Legal documents have been submitted to the Election Commission by the rebel faction.
The main contention revolves around control of the party’s name and election symbol. The rebel camp asserts they have over 60 MLAs supporting them, surpassing the required percentage of votes. In contrast, the original faction with only 20 MLAs is at a numerical disadvantage. The legal tussle intensifies as both factions vie for control.
