The two rival factions within the Trinamool Congress, each claiming authority over the party name, symbol, and funds, presented their cases to the Election Commission of India in New Delhi. Representatives of the faction led by Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, including Kalyan Banerjee, Mahua Moitra, and Sagarika Ghose, personally delivered their documents to the Commission. In contrast, the faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, labeled as the “rebel but majority” group, had their legal team submit their arguments to the Commission.
While the details of the documents submitted by the Ritabrata faction remain undisclosed, Kalyan Banerjee, representing the other faction, expressed confidence in their legal position. He highlighted concerns about potential interference due to support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and indicated readiness to pursue legal and public avenues if needed. With both factions now having presented their cases, the decision rests with the Election Commission, though observers anticipate that the ruling may not bring an immediate resolution to the internal dispute.
Political analysts predict that whichever faction feels aggrieved by the Election Commission’s decision is likely to challenge it in the Supreme Court, indicating that the ongoing conflict within the Trinamool Congress may persist beyond the Commission’s ruling.
