A video circulating online shows Trinamool Congress supporters causing chaos during a hearing session on the draft voters’ list in Bhaduria, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, condemned the incident, accusing ruling party activists of ongoing hooliganism. Adhikari highlighted similar disruptions in other districts and criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Since the commencement of the hearing sessions on the draft voters’ list, there have been multiple instances of Trinamool Congress workers, often led by party leaders and legislators, disrupting the proceedings. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has repeatedly urged the state government to ensure adequate police protection at the hearing centers to prevent such disruptions. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has also raised concerns about the disturbances during interactions with Trinamool Congress representatives, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards hooliganism during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.
During a recent meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s delegation, the CEC sternly warned against any form of hooliganism aimed at interfering with the revision process, citing instances of Trinamool Congress legislators resorting to abusive and threatening behavior towards the Commission and electoral officials.
